History / Summary

Presented to John William Seabrook in February 1913. John William Seabrook, a member of the Royal Navy on loan to the Royal Australian Navy. He joined the HMAS Sydney on 23 June 1913 when the ship was commissioned and served on her until November 1918. Seabrook was involved in the Sydney's engagement with the German raider SMS Emden on 9 November 1914. The Marine Society in London is the world's oldest maritime charity and training organisation, being established in 1756, at the beginning of the Seven Years' War, as a means to supply mariners for the navy.
