Studio portrait of 3785 Private (Pte) George Hicks, 3rd Battalion, of Burrinjuck, NSW. A foreman before enlisting in Ausgust 1915, Pte Hicks left Australia for Egypt with the 12th Reinforcements in December 1915, and arrived in France for service on the Western Front in March 1916. Pte Hicks was killed in action during the 3rd Battalion's stay in the line at Pozieres sometime between 22 July and 27 July 1916. Aged 30 at the time of his death, he was buried nearby, but his grave marker was lost in later fighting and consequently has no known grave.
