Description

Studio portrait of 136 Private Walter Burgin, 2nd Battalion, of Inverell, NSW. A bank clerk prior to enlistment, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Suffolk (A23) on 18 October 1914. He was wounded in action at Gallipoli, Turkey on 13 May 1915 and died of his wounds on 21 May 1915 aboard HMS Gascon enroute to Alexandria, Egypt, aged 20. He is buried in the Alexandria (Chatby) Military and War Memorial Cemetery, Egypt.
