Studio portrait of 220 Private (Pte) John Cyril (Jack) de Little, 29th Battalion, of Kooweerup, Vic. A farmer befor enlisting in July 1915, Pte De Little left Australia for Egypt on board HMAT Ascanius (A11) in November 1915, and in June 1916, arrived in France for service on the Western Front. He was killed in action near Armentieres on 10 October 1916, aged 24. According to his Roll of Honour circular, a letter sent home to Pte de Little's next of kin from his Sergeant described him as " a great soldier with a keen sense of duty, which makes his loss the more regretted".
