Memorial portrait of 1372 Corporal (Cpl) Angus Frank Lyon, 11th Battalion, of Northam, WA. His portrait is surrounded by the Australian flag and a Union Jack, a black swan, kangaroo and lion, and eucalyptus leaves and gumnuts. It is surmounted by the legend 'For King and Country' and the Rising Sun badge of the Australian Commonwealth Military Forces. The text reads, "In loving Memory of Sergt. Angus Frank Lyon, No. 1372. 11th Battalion, C Coy, 3rd Bridgade. Enlisted in the A.I.F. at Northam, early after the outbreak of the great War, as a private and went into camp at Blackboy [Hill, WA], where he went through his preliminary training. He then proceeded to Egypt, where he completed his training. It was on the 25th of April, 1915 that the above hero took part in the historical "landing at Gallipoli" and remained in Gallipoli until the evacuation. He was then drafted to France where he was engaged in heavy fighting at Pozieres and was promoted to Sergeant there. It was between 23rd and 25th July 1916, that he was reported killed at Pozieres. He was 30 years of age and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Lyon reside at Gardener, "St Leamark Cottage," Northam, West. Aus." Frank Lyon was a gold miner before enlisting on 16 October 1914. He embarked from Fremantle on HMAT Itonus on 22 February 1915 with the Second Reinforcements.
