Studio portrait of 4491 Private (Pte) Frederick Thomas Merritt, 22nd Battalion, of Camberwell, Vic. A plumber before enlisting on 7 January 1916, Pte Merritt embarked on 29 March 1916 from Melbourne on RMS Orontes with the 11th Reinforcements. He was killed in action on 3 May 1917 at Bullecourt, at the age of 23.
