Studio portrait of 2259 Private (Pte) William Waterson Stevens, 51st Battalion AIF, his wife and four children. They are: Left to right back row: His wife Mary Brown Stevens, Jeanie Blake Stevens, Pte Stevens; Second row: Helen Scott Stevens and William Waterson Stevens. Seated at front is Alexander Brown Stevens, a twin of Jeanie. A horsedriver by trade, Pte Stevens was born at Peebles, Scotland. In March 1916, three years after arriving in Australia, he enlisted in the AIF at Perth WA. Pte Stevens was killed in action in France on 2 April 1917 aged 33. In his personal effects returned to his wife, were a sprig of heather and a lock of hair.
