Outdoor portrait with scenic backdrop, of 953 Private George Sussems, 24th Battalion, of Heidelberg, Vic. A joiner and member of the 55th Infantry Battalion (militia) prior to enlistment, Pte Sussems embarked with D Company from Melbourne on HMAT Euripides on 10 May 1915. On 5 August 1916 he was killed in action in France, aged 20.
