Group portrait of recruits while at camp before embarkation. Identified is, fourth from left, back row, 6078 Private (Pte) Stanley Edward Pettit, 16th Battalion, of Talbot, near York, WA. A farmer before enlisting on 20 March 1916, Pte Pettit embarked on from Fremantle on HMAT Militiades on 7 August 1916 with the 19th Reinforcements. He was hit by a shell and killed in action during the attack at Bullecourt on 11 April 1917.
