Studio portrait of WX9631 Private (Pte) Ronald Thomas Burgess of Wonthella, WA. Pte Burgess enlisted with Western Australia’s 2/28th Infantry Battalion on 4 December 1940. In early January 1941 the battalion moved to Fremantle, where it joined a troopship convoy to the Middle East. It participated in the Siege of Tobruk, from 11 April until 7 December 1941, after which the battalion moved to Palestine, Syria and then Lebanon for rest, training and garrison duties. Pte Burgess died of injuries on 5 July 1942, aged 22.
