Studio portrait of 6280 Private (Pte) Cyril Burge Cooke, 18th Battalion, of Lidcombe, New South Wales. A fitter's assistant married to Dulcie Maud Cooke, Pte Cooke enlisted on 4 June 1916 and embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Suevic (A29) on 11 November. He died of wounds, aged 26, on 11 May 1918 at the 61st Casualty Clearing station and is buried at Vignacourt British Cemetery. Pte Cooke wrote on the reverse of this photograph, "With love from your old boy Cyril".
