Description

Studio portrait of 925 Private (Pte) Jack Dean, 32nd Battalion, of Midland Junction, WA. Born in Bolton, England, he worked as a striker for the railways before enlisting. Pte Dean embarked from Adelaide with C Company on HMAT Geelong on 18 November 1915. On 25 March 1916 he was appointed Lance Corporal. He was killed in action at Fleurbaix on 19 July 1916, at the age of 20. His brother, 4097 Sergeant (Sgt) Charles Entwistle Dean, 28th Battalion, died of wounds received at Aldershot Camp, near Neuve Eglise, on 12 December 1917. An aeroplane flying over dropped a bomb and he was hit by shrapnel.
