Description
Studio portrait of Second Lieutenant (2 Lt) Horace Edgar Blee, 16th Battalion, of Payneham, SA. An accountant before enlisting on 30 July 1915, he embarked from Adelaide on HMAT Benalla as a Private, service number 3233, with the 11th Reinforcements on 27 October 1915. On 16 September 1916 he was promoted to Corporal, and on 7 November 1917 he was mentioned in despatches. On 19 May 1918, following officer training in England, he was appointed a Second Lieutenant. He was wounded at Hamel Wood on 4 July 1918, and died of his wounds the same day, at the age of 26.
