Portrait of NX16019, Private John Curran, 2/13th infantry battalion of Coolamon, New South Wales. Private, later Corporal Curran was awarded the Military Medal for maintaining effective mortar fire during an enemy attack at Hill 33 near Alamein on the night of the 30 August 1942. Corporal Curran died on the 20 February 1943 from a wound sustained during the Alamein battle on the 31 October 1942.
