Studio portrait of Second Lieutenant (2nd Lt) Leo James Corrigan, 18th Battalion of Waverley, NSW. The colour patch of the battalion has been hand coloured onto the right hand corner of the image. A clerk prior to enlistment, he embarked originally with the 1st Battalion, Australian Naval and Military Expeditionary Force (AN&MEF) on 19 August 1914, with the service number 322 and the rank of Private. He returned to Australia and enlisted in the AIF, embarking on HMAT Ceramic on 25 June 1915 with the service number 500 and the rank of Private. On 30 June 1917 he was promoted to the rank of 2nd Lt. On 20 September 1917 2nd Lt Corrigan was killed by a shell on Anzac Ridge forward of Westhoek, Belgium. He was aged 21 years.
