Description

Wooden framed certificate awarded to Franciois Thevenot 55 Infantry Regiment, French Army. The certificate has been printed with space provided to mount service medals received. The Commemorative Medal and Inter-Allied Victory Medal have been mounted centrally on the certificate. '1914-1918' is printed above the medals. On each of the four corners are images of classical statues in dramatic poses with the words from left to right 'Depart', 'Gloire', 'Defense', and 'Paix'. Underneath the medals is written 'Monsieur THEVENOT Francois / Soldat au 55: Reg: Infie: Terale / A fait Campagne 1914-1919'. Underneath is printed ' EN MEMOIRE DE LA GRANDE GUERRE'.

History / Summary

Francois Thevenot was born October 10, 1873 in Servieres in the central district of France. He became a builder and married Ruby Marie in 1902. He died on 18 September 1935 in Lyon. The Inter-Allied Victory Medal 1914-1918 was created 24 January 1919 by representatives of the allied nations for award to the Servicemen of the First World War. The French version was instituted on 20 July 1922. The Medaille Commemorative de las Guerre de 1914-1918 was instituted on 23 June 1920.
