Group portrait of members of the 12th Battalion. Known to be in the photograph (position unknown) is 446 Private (Pte) William Albert Gillam, a member of D Company. A miner from Queenstown, Tasmania, prior to enlistment, Gillam embarked with the rank of Corporal from Hobart aboard HMAT Geelong (A2) on 20 October 1914. He was killed in action at Gallipoli on 23 June 1915, aged 34.
