Studio portrait of 2684B Private Samuel George Kilgour, 49th Battalion, of Blairgowrie via Childers, Qld. Son of Andrew and Mary Ann Kilgour of Cordalba, Qld, brother of 3784 Private John Kilgour. A labourer prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Ceramic (A40) on 7 October 1916. He was killed in action in the Third Battle of Ypres, Belgium on 12 October 1917, aged 26. He has no known grave and is remembered with honour on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.
