Studio portrait of 2377 Private Leslie Clarence Roy George Hughes, 1st Battalion, of Canterbury, NSW. Son of John and Emma Hughes, Dulwich Hill, NSW. A pitman prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Orsova (A67) on 14 July 1915. He died on 6 September 1916 in hospital at Etaples, France from wounds received in action near Albert, France on 22 August 1916, aged 23. He is buried in the Etaples Military Cemetery, France.
