Description
Studio portrait of 1851 Acting Corporal (later Corporal) William George Warne, 30th (later 45th),Battalion of Petersham, NSW. Son of William and Elizabeth Warne. A grocer prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Berrima (A35) on 17 December 1915. He was killed in action on 7 August 1916 on the ridge above Pozieres, France, aged 26. He was buried where he fell but post war the grave was not found. He is remembered with honour on the Villers Bretonneux Memorial, France.
