Studio portrait of 1716A Private Cyril James Cross 45th Battalion of Beryl via Gulgong, NSW. Son of William and Elizabeth Cross. A labourer prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Ceramic (A40) on 14 April 1916. He was killed in action on 6 August 1916 in France, aged 21. He has no known grave and is remembered with honour on the Villers Bretonneux Memorial, France.
