Studio portrait of 13809 Private (Pte) William George McLean, Australian Army Medical Corps, of Sydney, NSW. The photograph is signed ' Yours sincerely W G McLean 29.3.1916', the day of his embarkation. A salesman prior to enlistment, Pte McLean embarked from Sydney on HMAT Kanowna (A61) on 29 March 1916. Pte McLean served in London reaching the rank of Extra Regimental (ER) Sergeant. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal (gazetted 12 December 1919) for valuable services rendered during the war. McLean married Dorothy Mahr in England on 1 November 1919 and returned to Australian in 1920.
