Group portrait of the Wyatt family. Identified, back row; William Victor Baily Wyatt. Second row, left to right; Helen Wyatt (sister to above); Aaron Wyatt (father); Elizabeth Cattle Wyatt (nee Baily). Front row; Alice Noble (nee Wyatt) (sister); Gerald Baily Wyatt (brother). William Victor Baily Wyatt, a carpenter of Surrey Hills, Vic, with two years service in the Citizens' Military Forces (CMF) enlisted as a Sapper on 31 July 1915 with service number 3148. He embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Ceramic (A40) with the 5th Field Company Engineers on 24 November 1915. He was promoted to Lance Corporal on 27 February 1916 and was wounded in action with a gun shot wound to the left thigh on 20 May of the same year. He rejoined his unit soon after and was appointed Corporal on 25 November 1916. Cpl Wyatt was killed in action on 3 May 1917, aged 24. He has no known grave and is commemorated at the Australian War Memorial, Villers-Bretonneux, France. This family portrait was taken prior to Wyatt's enlistment when he was 20 years of age.
