Studio portrait of NX73463 Private (Pte) John Stanislaus Purcell, 2/19 Infantry Battalion. A clerk from Goulburn, NSW prior to enlistment on 1 December 1941, Pte Purcell was captured in Singapore and held as a prisoner of war of the Japanese in Changi prison camp. Later transferred to Borneo, he died of illness on 17 June 1945 and is commemorated on the Labuan Memorial, Malaysia.
