"Caribou UN-324 damaged by Pakistan air attack on Srinigar airfield 7 Sep 65. Port wing destroyed up to engine nacelle, port undercarriage and wheel burnt and the fuselage on the port side blistered and burnt. 17 bullet holes were seen in the rear tail section and fuselage. Four Pakistan F-86 Sabre jets attacked the airfield firing machine guns only, destroying 2 Indian Dakota aircraft in addition to the UN Caribou and a number of Administration buildings. The fires on the aircraft were put out by Captain Barrie Newman (Australia) and Squadron Leader Tettmar (Canada) immediately after the attack. Indian casualties: 2 dead (mechanics) and 14 wounded (5 seriously)."
