Studio portrait of 486 Private Walter Garnet Morris, 33rd Battalion of Bingara, NSW. Son of Pryce and Emma Jane Morris, of Sunnyside. A farmer prior to enlisting on 28 January 1916, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Marathon (A74) on 4 May 1916 but was disembarked at Fremantle with diphtheria. After recovering he was reassigned to the 44th Battalion with number 1725A and embarked from Fremantle with aboard HMAT Suevic (A29) on 6 June 1916. In September 1916, he transferred to the 28th Battalion. He was killed in action on 16 November 1916 in France, aged 29. He has no known grave and is remembered with honour on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France.
