Description

During Operation Massey Harris, 54423 Captain William John (Bill) Parker, commander of 1 Troop, B Squadron, 3 Cavalry Regiment, salutes or waves farewell to a senior officer with whom he has been discussing operational details at Night Defensive Position (NDP) Beverley, about 30 kilometres east of the 1st Australian Task Force (1ATF) base at Nui Dat. The officer is heading towards an Iroquois helicopter of No. 9 Squadron RAAF where a crew member is waiting for him to board. Operation Massey Harris is a food-denial operation designed to search out and destroy secret enemy crops and vegetable gardens in the southeast corner of Phuoc Tuy province and the neighbouring southwest corner of Binh Tuy province.
