Description

Australian soldiers load a stretcher casualty onto a medical evacuation (dust-off) helicopter from No. 9 Squadron RAAF. The man was among fourteen Australians and one New Zealand soldier who were wounded when the M113A1 Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) in which they were riding ran over and detonated a large enemy anti-tank mine. A South Vietnamese bushman scout who was also on board the APC was killed by the explosion. The APC, whose call sign was one three alpha (13A) and ARN 134305, was from B Squadron, 3 Cavalry Regiment. The incident occurred on the first day of Operation Massey Harris. Among the soldiers standing in the foreground are two engineers with mine detectors over their shoulders.
