Folding camp bed : Private G A Coure, Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, British Army
British Army issue folding camp bed. The white canvas stretcher is supported on a wooden frame with three ‘X’ shaped legs. At each end of the bed a piece of wood is threaded through a loop in the canvas and is attached to the end of the frame via two dowels. The camp bed is folded for storage by collapsing the legs and moving them into a horizontal position. The frame can then be folded in half and secured using two webbing straps attached to the legs. A self fabric carry strap is sewn to the underside of the canvas stretcher. The stitching on the canvas stretcher has been reinforced in several places.
This folding camp bed was used in Egypt by N/S 8127 Private George Alfred Coure who served in the British Army with the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. Soon after the end of the war Coure migrated to Australia with his wife.
