Studio portrait of 685 Private Edgar (Eddie) Stephenson, 38th Battalion. A labourer of Crookwell, NSW, he enlisted on 20 June 1916 and sailed with the 12th Reinforcements aboard HMAT Suevic on 21 June 1917. He died of wounds on 23 October 1918, aged 25, at Reading Hospital after being gassed at Polygon Wood and is buried at Reading Cemetery, Berkshire, England.
