Studio portrait of 3915 Private Thomas McConnell,15th Battalion, of Sydney, NSW, brother of Hilda McConnell. A labourer prior to enlisting in Brisbane, Qld, on 24 May 1915, he embarked from Sydney, NSW, aboard HMAT Suffolk (A23) on 30 November 1915. He was killed in action on 8 August 1916 in France during the Battle of the Somme, aged 32. He has no known grave and is remembered with honour on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial.
