Studio portrait of 4580 Private Alexander Smith, 2nd Battalion, of Balmain, NSW. A wireworker prior to enlisting on 26 August 1915, he embarked from Sydney, NSW, aboard HMAT Osterley on 15 January 1916. He was killed in action on 28 December 1916 in Gueudecourt, France, aged 23.
