Studio portrait of 1383 Private (Pte) Arvan James Prichard, 20th Battalion. An engineer from Drummoyne, NSW prior to enlistment, Pte Prichard embarked with D Company from Sydney on HMAT Berrima on 25 June 1916. After transferring to the 5th Machine Gun Battalion, he was steadily promoted up to the rank of Lieutenant before transferring to the 2nd Machine Gun Battalion where, on 18 July 1918, aged 20 he was killed in action. Following the Armistice his remains could not be located and he is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial.
