Studio portrait of 2997 Private (later Lance Corporal) Edward Sladen, 60th Battalion of Goulburn, NSW. A bank clerk prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Afric (A19) on 3 November 1916. He was wounded in action near Villers-Bretonneux, France on 27 April 1918, and died of wounds in the 4th Casualty Clearing Station, Bignacourt, France on 28 April 1918, aged 27. He is buried in Pernois British Cemetery, Halloy-les-Pernois, France.
