Portable water tank : Australian Camel Corps
Description
Rivetted galvanished iron ellipsoid water tank, known as a fantassie, fitted with a cast brass filler cap (with leather washer). There are two iron hoops fitted to one side to enable the tank to be strapped to a saddle. A small chain joins the filler cap to one of the hoops.
History / Summary
Portable galvanised iron water tank designed to be carried by camel, and used by the Australian Camel Corps during the Sinai campaign. The tank had a capacity of nine imperial gallons and was intended to supply water to the rider for all purposes when on the march for five days.
