Description

Sinking of Rakuyu Maru; being forced below desks before torpedo attack; threw Japanese captain overboard; many men in water died when destroyer exploded. Problems with tying lifeboats together; picked up by Japanese escort destroyer Sakata; heard gun fire; death of brother Harry; men on the Rakuyu Maru; life boats damaged by Japanese with axes; killing and eating a Japanese pet dog; death of Bluey Dowd; ten in the boat had water, biscuits and a pistol; picked up after 3 days; self-survival; caught by Japanese officer bartering with locals - calls his bluff; in POW camp in Japan; tunnel out of camp; camp in Saigon; on board Sakata.
