Studio portrait of 3294 Private (Pte) Christopher Franklin Willcox, 24th (later 8th) Battalion of Wangaratta, Victoria. A school teacher prior to enlisting, he embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Commonwealth (A73) on 26 November 1915. On 28 July 1916, he was killed in action during the Battle of the Somme, near Pozieres, France, aged 20. Pte Willcox has no known grave and is remembered with honour on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France.
