Description
Studio portrait of 2nd Lieutenant Edwin Wesley Hauser, 21st Battalion of Ballarat East, Victoria. A school teacher prior to enlisting, he embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Ulysses (A38) on 10 May 1915 as 864 Private Hauser with the 21st Battalion. He was commissioned on 30 March 1917. On 7 May 1917, two days after re-joining the 21st Battalion as an officer, he was killed in action near Bullecourt, France when hit by a shell. He was aged 26. He has no known grave and is remembered with honour on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France.
