Description
Studio portrait of 2829 Private (later Corporal) George Venus Harris, 14th (later 4th Pioneer) Battalion of Wangaratta, Victoria. A clerk prior to enlisting, he embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Hororata (A20) on 27 September 1915. Although twice wounded in action, he recovered on each occasion. On 23 January 1919 he was transferred to England where he contracted pneumonia and died on 2 February 1919 in Fovant Hospital, U.K., aged 24. He is buried in the Fovant (St George) Churchyard, United Kingdom.
