Studio portrait of six members of the 7th Reinforcements, 39th Battalion, which embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Ballarat on 19 February 1917. Identified, left to right, back row: 3161 Private (Pte) Alexander Charles Wallis, a farmer of Miram, Vic, who enlisted on 17 October 1916; 3153 Pte Arthur Leslie Tarran, a farmer of Lorquon, Vic, who enlisted on 17 October 1916; 3058 Pte Percy Stanley Emonson, a farmer of Litchfield, Vic, who enlisted on 27 October 1916. Pte Emonson died of wounds on 27 April 1918, France, aged 22 years. Front row: 3055 Pte Richard Stanley Dickinson, a labourer of Nhill, Vic, who enlisted on 23 October 1916, and his brother, 3056 Pte Thomas William Dickinson, a farmer of Broughton via Nhill, Vic, who enlisted on 26 September 1916. Prior to enlisting in the AIF he served with the 19th Australian Light Horse, Citizens Military Forces; and 3042 Pte Charles Croot, a farmer of Broughton via Nhill, Vic, who enlisted on 23 October 1916. Note the British bulldog in the foreground and each seated soldier is holding a walking cane.
