Description
Collection relating to 2059 Private William Charles Bourne, 8 Battalion, First World War. Collection contains three letters written by Bourne to his family while serving with 8 Battalion at Gallipoli and 14 Battalion in France and Belgium. One letter written in 1929 is written by Bourne's mother-in-law to her grandson referring to Bourne's war service and other family news.
History / Summary
One letter from Bourne, dated 26 August is written from a Red Cross Hopsital in Manchester. No year is given. He describes his experiences with 14 Battalion and a party of five attacking the German trenches with only one rifle between them. He also makes several references to Lieutenant Jacka, presumably Captain Albert Jacka, VC.
