Description

A distraught woman cries by the hospital bedside of a relative, while her male companion reads from the Koran. Her relative was killed in the tsnami of 26 December 2004. The Indonesian province of Aceh was hit hard by both the initial earthquake, which occurred off the coast of northern Sumatra, and the tsunami which followed. Banda Aceh, capital of the province, became the focus of relief efforts, including the deployment of Australian military forces under Operation Sumatra Assist. Members of 1 Health Support Battalion (1HSB) worked in Banda Aceh public hospital to treat people injured in the disaster.
