Description

A fishing boat, pushed far inland by the tsunami of 26 December 2004, lies stranded in the mud, on a pile of wreckage. Trees have been pushed over by the force of the wave, and the area is covered in mud. Banda Aceh, close to the epicentre of the earthquake off the coast of northern Sumatra, was hit hard by the tsunami which followed. Australian military forces were deployed to Banda Aceh, under Operation Sumatra Assist, to provide humanitarian relief following the disaster, which killed over 110,000 people in Indonesia.
