History / Summary
183220 Captain Robert Henry Cuthbert of 19 Field Ambulance, Royal Army Medical Corps, served in Singapore until 15 February 1942. During the Surrender of Singapore he was hospitalised with a head wound. On recovery, Cuthbert was sent to Changi Prisoner of War (POW) Camp. From March 1942 through to April 1945, he moved between camps, and as a Medical Officer was able to operate on and medically assist many other POWs, including a number of Australians. Cuthbert was repatriated to the UK on HMT Orduna in September 1945, and later settled in Tasmania.
