Khaki soft peaked cap : Miss C Ockenden, Womens Royal Air Force
Woman's fine khaki twill wool soft peaked cap lined with khaki twilled cotton. Crown is pleated into a broad band with a turned up brim at the back and an oxidised brass RAF other ranks at the centre front. Soft peak is reinforced with rows of top stitching. Inside centre back has a red embroidered name tap 'C.O.'. Inside crown is stamped in black 'R.A.F. 2' within a square.
Worn by 6702 Miss Constance Ockenden (later Mrs Campbell) during her service as a cook with the Women's Royal Air Force (WRAF) from February 1918 to 1919. She had previously served with the Women's Legion. Constance Ockenden was born in India c 1896. After she had served during the First World War she emigrated to Australia, with her family, in the 1920s, where she married. She died in 1991.
