A group portrait of servicemen and friends in a park in Auckland. At far right is RAAF pilot 416028 Sergeant Arthur Rex Whitington, 11 Advanced Flying Unit (AFU), attached RAF and from Adelaide SA. Sgt Whitington was accidentally killed on 2 May 1942 while on service in Shropshire, England. 11 AFU in Shropshire was a training station that enabled foreign pilots to familiarize themselves with local conditions prior to being posted to an Operational Training Unit (OTU), and later a frontline Squadron..
