Description

Land Rover, 3/4 ton, 4x4 General Service, Series 2A, light truck. Chassis number 25306605b. Census number 6028. Australian Army Registration Number ARN 113107. The bodywork is of pressed steel and riveted construction on common chassis rails. It has four wheel leaf spring suspension and 7.50 x 16 non directional bar tread tyres. It has been finished in overall olive drab to reflect service with the Australian Army during the 1960s. It has a four cylinder petrol engine. A protective steel plate bull bar is fitted to the front which has two shackle points and a centrally fitted cast steel tow hook. Rectangular shaped modern driving lights have been fitted to the front mudguards outboard of the main headlights. Mounting points for a shovel and other larger tools are fitted to the front mudguard upper surfaces and there is provision for fitting a spare tyre to the bonnet. At the rear is a small drop down tailgate, supported by two chains. A cast steel tow hook is fitted below the tailgate. The driving compartment is complete and the dashboard contains all the original fittings, gauges and labels. The two doors are solid framed with horizontal sliding glass windows. The front windscreen is complete but there is damage to the wiper blades. The rear interior is fitted with four bench seats, two along each side and can accommodate up to eight passengers. A three bay, steel canopy bow is also fitted at the rear.

History / Summary

This vehicle was delivered to the Australian Army in June 1964. It was sold out of service from 32 Supply Battalion, Bandiana in Victoria on 23 October 1981. It was purchased by the AWM in 2004.

Although the exact Army service of this example is not known, many of the type served in Vietnam in a general cargo and troop carrying role. They also served as light artillery tractors and could haul the L5 105mm Pack Howitzer.
