Description

A line of members of the No 1 Section, 3rd Auxiliary Mechanical Transport (AMT) Company queue to board the gangway up to the troopship HMAT Persic (A34) prior to her departure Melbourne. Identified, left to right: unidentified lightly obscured with unreadable name on kitbag on the ground; 13389 Driver (Dvr) Walter Reginald Bouchard, of South Brisbane, Qld; 13406 Dvr William Frederick Mann, of Paddington, Qld; unidentified; 13392 Dvr Henry Dean, of New Farm, Qld; 13396 Dvr George Frederick Russell Freeman, of Bulimba Valley, Qld, white kitbag over his shoulder; unidentified; unidentified smoking a cigarette; 13395 Dvr John Henry Fenson, of South Brisbane, Qld; unidentified. Most of the soldiers in the front have their service number stencilled onto their backpacks. Behind the front line of soldiers a lieutenant speaks to a chaplain (braid around cap). Possibly Lieutenant (Lt) Clifford William James Isles, of Brisbane, Qld, officer for No 1 Section, AMT. A soldier standing behind and to left of Lt Isles, has his kitbag, which is partly visible, tucked under his arm. The kitbag belongs to 13383 Sergeant Edward Victor Harders, of Toowoomba, Qld.
