Description
Aerial view of Camp RAMSI, seen from an Australian Army helicopter. Camp RAMSI was the main military and police base for the Regional Assistance Mission to the Solomon Islands (RAMSI). It was established at the former Guadalcanal Beach Resort, 10 km east of Honiara, and 2 km from the Air Point of Departure at Honiara International Airport. It housed police from the multi-national Participating Police Force, and members of RAMSI military forces, including Australian Army soldiers under Operation Anode. In the centre, an RAN Balikpapan class Heavy Landing Craft can be seen unloading equipment onto the beach through its bow ramp.
