Maquette for Bomber Command sculpture
A Marquette for the sculpture to commemorate those who served and those who died with Bomber Command during the Second World War. The final sculpture will go on display in the sculpture garden of the Australian War Memorial. The design commemorates the service and sacrifice of those who served as air crew and also the dedicated work of ground support personnel. The work comprises of a symbolised searchlight made of aluminium, representations of the air and ground crew as silhouetted figures in uniform on a curved aluminium wall, a frosted glass plate at the base of the searchlight with brass stencils of the six aircraft flown by the Bomber Command, paving and granite elements surround the base of the searchlight. On the curved wall are the words 'Memorial to Australian service and sacrifice in Bomber Command, Royal Airforce'.
